Performance of GPTZero

Now, let’s start with the real-world performance of GPTZero, putting its AI detection power to the test. In order to do that, we will expose the AI detection tool to several texts, some written by humans and others by AI, to check if it will correctly detect each content.

We copied and pasted text generated by ChatGPT into GPTZero to test if it would be able to detect that the content of this paragraph is AI-generated. The first text tested was human-generated, an article published by BBC News in 2010 (before the rise in technology of AI tools).

GPTZero was successfully able to detect that the text was fully written by humans and no part of it was AI-generated.

We then tested the AI detection tool using text that was AI-generated, specifically from ChatGPT. The picture below shows the result of our test.

Although the text was fully generated by ChatGPT, GPTZero was only able to detect half of it to be AI-generated. The AI detection tool mentioned that it is a “mix of human and AI text” but unfortunately, it is not.

To double-check, we copied and pasted another AI-generated text into GPTZero. This time, the text was longer but it was also generated by ChatGPT.

As shown in the picture above, GPTZero was successfully able to detect that the full text is AI-generated with a 95% probability.

The results show that GPTZero is a good AI detection tool but it can make mistakes and false accusations in rare occasions.

Can you easily bypass GPTZero?

While this AI content detection tool is a formidable guardian of authenticity, it’s not fully sealed to clever tactics and bypassing methods.

Many users try to trick GPTZero by adding punctuation in unnecessary places and typos to the AI-generated text. We copied and pasted text from ChatGPT and made some alterations to check this method of bypassing GPTZero.

As shown in the picture above, almost half of the text was able to bypass GPTZero using typos and adding punctuation. However, many parts of it were still detected as AI-generated content.

To bypass GPTZero, the text being tested needs to look remarkably human-like, possessing emotions and empathy that mimic genuine human expression. This is where Stealthwriter comes in handy.
